Privacy Policy

Shadow Self is a local-first app. The vast majority of your data never leaves your device. The only exception is the optional Sage AI feature, which transmits a limited context package to a third-party AI provider (Anthropic, Inc.) each time you send a message. This policy explains exactly what is collected, how it is used, and who receives it.

All data you enter in the app is stored locally on your device using browser storage. We do not operate a server or database that holds your personal data.

The Sage feature is powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, Inc. (anthropic.com). When you send a message to Sage, the following data is transmitted to Anthropic's servers to generate a response. You are shown an in-app disclosure and must give explicit consent before any data is sent.

Can Anthropic identify you? No. Your name never leaves your device — it is used only within the app itself. The app has no accounts and collects no email or full name. Anthropic has no way to know who you are.

How Anthropic uses this data: Anthropic processes your message and context to generate a response, then returns it to the app — no storage, no training. API usage is covered under Anthropic's commercial terms, which include data protection commitments. See: anthropic.com/privacy

On-device data is used solely to personalise your experience — showing your archetype, continuing your journal, tracking exercise progress, and enabling all app features. It is never transmitted to us or any third party other than Anthropic when you use Sage.

Sage data sent to Anthropic is used only to generate a response to your message. The app does not log or transmit any record of what is sent beyond what is already saved locally on your device.

Your on-device data persists until you clear it. Because everything is stored locally on your device, there is no account to contact and no server to request deletion from — you are in complete control.

To delete all your data:

Open the app, go to the You tab, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete all my data. This permanently removes your journal entries, conversations, quiz results, and all other stored data from your device. There is no recovery — the deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data from your device.

For data sent to Anthropic: per Anthropic's API terms, request and response data is not retained on their servers after the response is returned, and is not used for model training.
